Message grind occasionally for about 6 months. After doing a lot of research on here, I thought my synchros were on the way out - although all my other shifts were smooth. I did not think the clutch had anything to do with it because it only had about 18k on it with daily driving. However, after a conversation with Greg Dupree about my symptoms, he thought my crunching could be caused by a lack of master cylinder pressure. I had considered this possibility as well, but since I had no fluid leaking I had ruled it out.

However, since it was the original 16 year old cylinder, I decided to rebuild it since I figured it couldn't hurt and at only about $20 for the rebuld kit I didn't have much to lose except some clutch bleeding time.

Incredibly, after my rebuild, the gear grind is gone. I was amazed at how much firmer my clutch was. It must have gradually faded over time to the point where I didn't notice it. I discovered it had been leaking internally down in the firewall just a bit and I imagine the spring had worn out too. Before the rebuild my clutch used to engage about 2" from the top. After the rebuild it was about 1" from the floor! That's how much difference just the rebuild made in the clutch engagement point. So I believe your comments about improper release causing wear is right on the money.

I adjusted my clutch up a bit so it engages about 1/3 up from the floor now, and all is good.

Anyway, Aquariuscsm don't think you've got much of a case, but you might consider a master cylinder rebuild and/or clutch adjustment so see if that lessens your problems, or at least prevents it from reoccuring if you get new synchros. Good luck.
